Children’s Christmas Card competition 2026
Under 18+ and love being creative? We’d love to hear from you! We would like to sell Christmas Cards this year to raise funds for the Galashiels Foodbank and, if you’re under 18 and live in our area, we hope you’ll create our card design!
The competition is free to enter and open to anyone aged 18 or below, living in the TD1, TD2, TD4 and TD6 postcode areas is very welcome to enter. Wining entries will receive a National Book Token as a prize and we will publish the cards in time for Christmas, selling them in The Wedale Bookshop and The Reading Room, Melrose. The winner will also have their name, age and village, town or area mentioned on the reverse of the card. We have an ever-growing selection of picture and chapter books in our two children’s rooms and for an older readership in our YA section upstairs. We aim to stock often-overlooked books or titles which continue to entertain and inspire.

We are happy to talk to schools, children’s and activity groups and talk about how we can help you. Since opening in 2023, we’ve held school group visits and other activities with local children’s groups as well as our regular author events.
In 2025, we opened an outdoors activity area, which is available for community groups to use – perfect for story telling sessions in the sunshine.
We offer a 20% discount for bulk school orders and will be happy to research and compile book lists and library suggestions for all topics.
We can also provide prizes and gift vouchers, available to purchase in the bookshop or online!
